New Year Yoga Retreat Kerala, India
3 – 10 January 2025
This retreat is full
Please join Jane for a week’s retreat at the sublime Dewalokam in Kerala – January 2025.
Start 2025 with a week of yoga, relaxation, meditation, sun, good company and incomparable Keralan food at the Dewalokam organic Farm Stay and yoga retreat on the banks of the river Kannadipuzha in the lush Southern Indian countryside only 90 minutes from Cochin airport.
This will be our fifth retreat at Dewalokam: our wonderful hosts and their delightful team always make us feel part of their family.
The Venue
Dewalokam is a retreat venue like no other. The main house and the three cottage rooms are surrounded by lush tropical gardens growing all variety of tropical plants and fruits. Dewalokam is also a 100% organic farm, growing its own fruit and vegetables free of fertilizers and pesticides. The paneer cheese made from Dewalokam’s own buffalo has to be sampled to be believed.
All rooms are airconditioned with ensuite facilities, tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge with bottled water which is replenished daily. The rooms are cleaned daily.
Each rooms leads out onto a large verandah overlooking the gardens and the river.
The Yoga
We will be practicing our yoga in an open air shala by the river, surrounded by the beautiful gardens. I will be teaching 3 classes a day with a mixture of dynamic and restorative asana (poses), pranayama (breathing techniques) and meditation. To add to our yogic experience, I am also inviting an Indian yoga master to lead a few of the sessions. It is entirely up to you how many classes you decided to take part in each day.
I teach a variety of yoga styles based on my 20 years of experience as a yoga teacher and 10 years as a certified Yoga Therapist. During the week, you will experience a range of yoga practices designed to deeply connect to you body and quieten your mind, enabling you to be present to all that is around and within you.
We will start each morning with a gentle stretch and breathing class to wake the body. After a short break there will be a morning practice of a more dynamic nature matching movement with breath and allowing us to drop into a deeper knowledge of ourselves – harmonising the breath, the mind and the body to achieve a sense of balance, vitality and ease.
The late afternoon session will be a mellower, soothing and nurturing practice, delving into areas such as yin yoga, restorative practices, pranayama, chakras, yoga nidra and guided meditation.
The Food
The food at Dewalokam is simply divine. The owners are passionate about food and you will enjoy simply the best of Keralan cuisine prepared by the excellent in-house professional chef. You will be nourished with three meals each day using made with Dewalokam’s own organic vegetables, spices and dairy produce. All diets and food preferences are catered for. You can choose vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian or omnivore meals – it’s all delicious!
Cookery demonstrations are offered on most days.
Things to Do
A host of other experiences awaits you – swimming in the river, a guided walk in the tropical forest, cycling to the nearby village, shopping in nearby Thodupuzha or just lying back in a hammock and looking forward to your next Ayurvedic massage!
The choice is yours.
The Accommodation
Choose from eight spacious air-conditioned rooms in our main guest house overlooking the river and forest beyond the Nilgiri mountains. More privacy is offered by the three in the Nalukettu cottage rooms – each one with its own private open-air shower in an inner courtyard. Either way, you will be crooned to sleep by the sounds of the forest and will wake to the singing of myriads of tropical birds.
